The Coolest Ghost

We're entering the bewitching season, and that made us think of things unseen, or at least things seen in a whole different light. We figured, why not? Let’s do a little “ghosting” early this year, and let you in on one of the best kept design secrets in the industry:

Enter The Ghost Chair by
Philippe Starck.

First, a little background on Starck:

Philippe Patrick Starck (born January 18, 1949) is a well-known French designer and probably the best known designer in the New Design style. His designs range from spectacular interior designs to mass produced consumer goods such as toothbrushes, chairs, and even houses.
He was educated in Paris at École Nissim de Camondo and in 1968, he founded his first design firm, which specialized in inflatable objects. In 1969, he became art director of his firm along with Pierre Cardin.
Now, about that chair:
Philippe Starck has reinvented the classic Louis XVI for Kartell. Introduced in 2002, with the Ghost chairs Starck pays homage to style periods, both baroque and mid-century modern.
The result? Elegance and irony.
We love it!

There are two "ghosts" in this collection - the "Victoria Ghost" side chair, and the "Louis Ghost" armchair. The Louis and Victoria Ghost Chairs are the most daring example of the world of injected polycarbonate in a single mold.
Despite their evanescent and crystalline appearance, Louis and Victoria Ghost are stable and durable, shock, scratch and weather resistant. They are also stackable up to six high.

Both are available in a
variety of colors.

The “transparent” chairs are very light in color,
(lighter than pictured) and appear to be tinted rather than colored when viewed in person.

Pale blue,
Orange, Crystal, Ice Green, Straw yellow, Medium blue, and Pale smoke grey. Also available (not pictured) are Opaque glossy white, Opaque glossy black, and Opaque glossy red.

The “Victoria Ghost” side chair: 36.2" height, 18.7" seat height 21" depth and 21" width, arm height 26.25".
MSRP: $375.00

The “Louis Ghost” is a comfortable armchair in transparent and colored polycarbonate.

Colors available are listed above.

The "Louis Ghost" armchair: H 37" | W 21" | D 22". Seat H 19" Arm H 27"
MSRP: $425.00

Whatever your style, inside or out, the
Ghost chairs by Philippe Starck are a wonderful and an unexpected surprise. So if you want to make a design choice that's classic but hip, unpredictable but timeless, this chair fits that description. And if you've always wanted a room inhabited by a couple of really cool ghosts, let me introduce you to Louis and Victoria. This just became your lucky day!

These chairs are available through DuBois Design Group.

That's all for the moment,

More's on the way!

Mark My Words

If you live somewhere - anywhere - and care about your digs, listen up: Designers Locker is here to keep you posted on what's in, what's out, what's coming, what's going, what you want in your space and where to get it.

First up is a lamp we found at Dallas Maket. When I saw it in the window I made a sharp right turn into the showroom and without hesitation set up an account. Take a look!

Designed by Mark Abrams for Oriental Accent, this lamp is a fabulous combination of classic and contemporary. Black and white ceramic, there is a texture of basket weave in the hounds-tooth design that makes you want to reach out and touch it. And you'll be glad you did. It's a tactile treasure!

This three-way lamp stands about 28 inches tall, and SRP is $425.00. There are also matching candle holders (very cool - we'll post those this week, too) and both are vailable through DuBois Design Group.

Check the locker on a regular basis to stay current on what's new in the designs you'll love to live with!

That's all for moment.

More's on the way!
